These terms are the agreement between you and Bridge Instructors LLC ("Bridge Instructors", "we", "us") for using bridgeinstructors.com and the teachers' websites that run on it (together, "the site"). By creating an account or using the site, you agree to them. Please also read our privacy policy, which explains what we do with your information.

1. What Bridge Instructors is

Bridge Instructors is a place where bridge players find and book bridge professionals - pros to play with, teachers and instructors - and find clubs, games and tournaments. Pros and teachers use it to show what they offer, take bookings, keep their calendar and clients, and record payments. Teachers can also have their own website on our platform, where they sell lessons and courses.

We provide the place and the tools. The games, lessons and other services booked on the site are provided by the pros and teachers themselves, not by Bridge Instructors. The agreement for a booking is between the player and the pro.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 13 years old to have an account. Younger players may take part through a parent or teacher who manages the account.
  • Give us true information, and keep it up to date - especially your name and email address.
  • Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account; tell us straight away at support@bridgeinstructors.com if you think someone else has used it.
  • One person, one account. Do not create accounts for others without their permission, or pretend to be someone you are not.

3. Pros, teachers and instructors

If you offer your services on the site:

  • Describe yourself, your experience, your achievements and your services honestly, and keep your prices and availability up to date.
  • You decide what you offer, what you charge, and whether to accept a booking. You are responsible for providing what you agreed to, and for any taxes, licences or permissions your work needs.
  • You are an independent professional, not an employee, agent or partner of Bridge Instructors. We do not supervise your games or lessons.
  • Respect the rules of the clubs, tournaments and organisations where you play or teach, including any rules about playing with clients.
  • Treat the information you get about players - names, contact details, notes - only as needed to serve them, and as our privacy policy describes.

We may check the information pros give us, and we may hide a profile or decline to list someone at our discretion - for example if a profile is incomplete, misleading or inactive.

4. Bookings

  • A booking request is a request until the pro confirms it. A pro who does not answer within 24 hours, or before the time asked for if that is sooner, is taken to have declined.
  • Once confirmed, the booking is an agreement between the player and the pro on the service, the time and the price shown.
  • Either side can cancel a booking on the site before it takes place. Pros may set their own cancellation terms; if they do, they must tell players before booking. Without such terms, please give as much notice as you can - at least 24 hours is courteous.
  • Any disagreement about a booking - a no-show, the quality of a lesson, a refund - is first between the player and the pro. We are happy to help you reach each other, but we are not obliged to settle it.

5. Payments

  • Players pay pros directly. A pro may take card payments through their own Stripe account connected to the site, or be paid in other ways - Venmo, Zelle, cash - which the pro or player then marks as paid on the site.
  • Card payments are processed by Stripe under Stripe's own terms. The money goes to the pro's Stripe account, not to us; we never hold it. Card details go straight to Stripe and are never stored by us.
  • Refunds are given by the pro. A refund of a card payment goes back through Stripe; other refunds are between the player and the pro.
  • The payment records on the site are a convenience for keeping track. They are only as accurate as what is entered, and they are not a receipt from Bridge Instructors.

6. Teachers' websites and lessons

  • A teacher with a website on our platform is responsible for what it says and sells - lessons, courses, subscriptions, prices and refunds - and for honouring what they sell. The account a student uses there is their Bridge Instructors account.
  • A subscription to a teacher's lessons renews as described when you buy it, until you cancel it. You can cancel it from your account on the teacher's website; what happens to access for the rest of a period already paid is as the teacher's website describes.
  • Teachers own their lessons, articles, deals and other material. Buying or subscribing gives you a personal right to use them for your own learning - not to copy, share or resell them.

7. What it costs

Using Bridge Instructors is free for players, and at present free for pros. Teachers' websites and some features are paid, at the prices shown when you sign up for them. Paid plans renew until cancelled, and are not refunded for a period already begun unless the law requires it. We do not take a share of what players pay pros. If we ever introduce fees for something that is free now, we will tell you in advance, and you can choose not to use it.

8. What you post

  • What you put on the site - your profile, photo, bio, achievements, notes, lessons, reviews - stays yours. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, show and share it on the site and in promoting the site (for example, a pro's profile shown on our homepage), for as long as it is on the site.
  • Only post what you have the right to post. Do not post others' photos, material or personal information without their permission.
  • We may remove anything that breaks these terms or the law, or that we reasonably believe harms others.
  • If you think something on the site infringes your copyright, write to support@bridgeinstructors.com with the details, and we will look into it promptly.

9. How to behave

Do not use the site to:

  • harass, threaten, discriminate against or mislead anyone;
  • send spam, or contact people for anything other than bridge and the services on the site;
  • arrange bookings with someone you met here in order to avoid the site's terms, or to cheat in any game or event;
  • collect other users' information, scrape the site, or use it to build a competing directory;
  • break into, overload, or interfere with the site, or get around any limit or security measure;
  • break any law.

10. Clubs, games and tournaments

Information about clubs, club games, online games and tournaments comes from public sources - such as the ACBL and clubs' own schedules - and from what clubs and members tell us. We work to keep it right, but games are cancelled and schedules change: please check with the club or organiser before you travel. Bridge Instructors is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the ACBL or any club unless we say so.

11. Other services

Some features connect to other companies' services - Google Calendar, Stripe, and others. Using them is optional; when you do, their own terms apply too, and we are not responsible for how they work. You can disconnect them at any time from your Integrations page. How we use the data they give us is in our privacy policy and, for Google Calendar, on this page.

12. Ending your account

  • You can stop using the site at any time, and ask us to close your account by writing to support@bridgeinstructors.com. Bookings already confirmed remain between you and the other person.
  • We may hide, suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, misleads or harms others, or puts the site at risk. Where we can, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right.
  • What is said here about payments, what you post, disclaimers, liability and disputes still applies after an account ends.

13. Disclaimers

We do our best to keep the site working and its information accurate, but we provide it "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, as far as the law allows. In particular, we do not guarantee that the site will always be available or free of errors, and we do not vouch for any user - their skill, ranking, qualifications, conduct or the quality of their games and lessons. Choose who you play with and learn from with the same care you would anywhere else.

14. Limits on our liability

As far as the law allows, Bridge Instructors is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits or lost data, or for anything that happens between users - in games, lessons, payments or otherwise. Our total liability to you for any claim about the site is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or US$100. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

If your use of the site, or something you post, breaks these terms or the law and causes a claim against us, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of that claim.

15. Disputes and the law

If you have a problem with us, please write to us first - most things can be sorted out quickly. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, and disputes about them will be heard in the courts located in Florida, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them where you are.

16. Changes

We may change these terms as the site grows. When we make a change that matters, we will tell you on the site or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using the site after that, the new terms apply; if you do not agree with them, you can close your account.
